Why Wait Until It Hurts? Talking Health Before It’s Too Late 🗣️
The Observation: Have you noticed that when old people gather, the conversation almost always turns to health? They trade hypotheses about their ailments, discuss their maintenance meds, and compare symptoms. It is their common ground.
But young people? We don't talk about it. I don't know exactly why, but I guess it feels irrelevant. We feel invincible. We assume that those conversations belong to the future.
1. The "Uncool" Conversation
To be honest, listening to old people talk about their chronic diseases isn't exactly "cool." It can feel depressing or repetitive. When you are young and vibrant, the last thing you want to discuss is high blood pressure or joint pain.
But I realized something important: They talk about it because they are experiencing it. Their conversation is born out of consequence. They are trying to solve a puzzle that has already fallen apart.
2. The Trap of the Youth
I guess when we grow old and finally encounter these chronic diseases, we will start talking about them too. But isn't that a tragedy?
- The Cycle: We ignore health when we are young -> We lose health when we are old -> We complain about health forever.
3. Shifting the Purpose: Awareness vs. Regret
I think it is way better to talk about health now for awareness, instead of waiting to talk about it later because of experience.
- Talking for Awareness: This is proactive. It is discussing nutrition, exercise, and avoidance of bad habits so we never have to have the "old person conversation."
- Talking for Experience: This is reactive. It is discussing which doctor is best for surgery or which pill has the fewest side effects.
Conclusion
We shouldn't wait for the diagnosis to start the conversation. It is better to just talk about it now, while we are strong, instead of waiting until we are merely surviving chronic diseases.
Let's make health a "young person conversation" too.
